The Trojans finished the regular season in 2nd place in the North Region Standings, earning the right to host a 3-team, double elimination "Super Regional" playoff that would send the winner to Longview, WA for the NWAC Championships featuring the top 8 teams in the NWAC. The first game of the tournament Saturday afternoon featured the #3 team out of the South, Mt. Hood Community College vs the #4 team out of the West, Centralia College. MHCC went on to win that game setting up a 7pm game on Saturday night vs the Trojans.
Everett swept Mt. Hood earlier this season in a home series, but the Saints came to play in the post season. After 3 innings of play, the score was tied 4-4 and remained tied until the 8th inning when sophomore utility infielder Nic Anderson belted a solo home run to take 5-4 lead. After two quick outs in the top of the ninth, Mt. Hood was down to their final out before an RBI single would tie the game at 5-5 and threaten to take the lead with runners at 2nd and 3rd. Closer Gabe Smith would work out of the jam and get a fly ball to left field to get out of the inning. It would be in the 11th inning before the Trojans would get a runner into scoring position, with Danny Head on 2nd base. Freshman MarcusMcCannel snuck a ball through the infield and it was enough to score the runner from 2nd winning the game 6-5.
Centralia and Mt. Hood would play another game on Sunday (double elimination) but this time it would be Centralia to earn the win, eliminating MHCC and setting up a 3pm game vs Everett.
The Trojans would score first in the 2nd inning and never looked back from that point pushing across another 5 runs and ultimately taking the game 6-1 to clinch their 4th straight trip to Longview. Sophomore Mack Larson was the winning pitcher going 6 innings with 6 strike outs and 1 earned run.
The Trojans will play host Lower Columbia College on Thursday night, May 24th at 7:35pm.
