Everett Community College announced Garet Studer as the Director of Athletics effective July 31st, 2017. Studer assumed his new position after serving as the Director of Operations for the Northwest Athletic Conference.
“He has ideas of what to do to take our athletic department to the next level,” said Jennifer Rhodes, EvCC’s associate dean of student life & athletics. “That, along with his experience, connections within the conference and educational background made him a good fit for us.”
Studer spent two years in the conference office where he was responsible for championship operations, sponsorship acquisition, marketing, and promotions for 15 men’s and women’s sports involving 124 athletic teams and over 1,800 student athletes and coaches. In his role he exceeded sponsorship goals by 33% and increased website and social media engagement by 70%.
Garet’s work ethic and energy are two strengths that stand out,” NWAC Executive director Marco Azurdia said. “He is a relentless worker with high standards and expectations, and is extremely passionate about providing excellent student-athlete experiences. Above this he first and foremost is a person of integrity.”
Currently, Studer is the only Athletic Director in the NWAC to have competed as an NWAC athlete, coached in the NWAC, and to have worked in the conference office. “I think the experiences I have had in the NWAC allows me to view things from different lenses,” Garet said. “Ultimately we are all here to help our student athletes succeed and leave us more prepared than what they were when they first got here. Their success is the reason we come to work every day.”
Garet was a community college instructor for six years and coached basketball at Clark College, where he also competed as a student athlete.
He attended Washington State University where he earned his bachelors degree in sport management with a minor in business administration. He remained at WSU for his graduate work where he received his Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration.
Garet and his wife Joy live in Lake Stevens with their sons Everett and Lincoln.
