1963 Men’s Golf

Vern “Buck” Walters coached only one year of golf at Everett Junior College, and he made the most of it leading the Everett team to a state title. The team competed against both the UW Frosh and Seattle U. junior varsity teams in non-conference matches, coming away without victories but gaining confidence for the regular season. Bob Borup, member of an Everett High School state championship team, joined Jay Easterwood and Dick Frei in the top three positions. Other team members included Marsh Forrester, Dave Holstrom, Don Hockett, Dennis Averill, Bill Smith, and Tony Hamilton. Hamilton tied a national record with 10 putts in the first nine holes during a regular season match. In the state competition, Everett recorded a round of 310, eight strokes ahead of second place Olympic.
