Ken Johnson

In 1980 Ken Johnson was voted the Everett Herald's Man of the Year in sports.  Ken began competing in wheelchair events including archery, softball throw, wheelchair push, and pentathlon in the late 1970s.  He also swam the backstroke and freestyle, setting national records in both events.  In the pentathlon (archery, 60 push, 25 meter backstroke, shot put, and club throw) he finished first in the country.  Ken participated in the World Games and U.S. Olympic Trials for wheelchair athletes, and attended Everett Community College from 1978 to 1980.  Ken served four years in the Coast Guard and passed away on January 27th, 2020.
