Big Win in Mt. Vernon

Big Win in Mt. Vernon

The Trojans left Mt. Vernon last night with a big 84-64 victory in the North Region opener vs Skagit Valley.  Another 30+ point performance from Markieth Brown Jr. (who leads the NWAC in scoring), and 19 points off the bench from redshirt freshman Phalon Maddox propelled the Trojans to their ninth win of the season and opened up North Region play 1-0 for the second straight year season.

After a close first half that saw the Trojans with a two point lead heading into the break, the game remained tight until about the thirteen minute mark when a 43-41 lead was stretched into a nine point lead on a 7-0 run.   Markieth Brown Jr. exploded for 22 second half points, combined with his nine first half points to finish the game with 31.  This game's performance puts him at over 1,000 career points at Everett CC and in the hunt to become one of the school's top all time scorers.

Freshman forward Magnus Jespersen had another great night on the glass collecting 20 rebounds, the second time this season he's reached the 20 rebound mark and the 7th game in double digits.  He currently sits 2nd in the NWAC with 12.3 rebounds per game, and 4th with 147 total rebounds.

The Trojans return home on Saturday night for their North region home opener against Whatcom CC.  The Orcas are coming off of a big 92-80 win over Olympic and have four players that average double figures in scoring.  The big test will be  to limit the NWAC's #1 offensive rebounding team opportunities on the glass.  They average 18.5 offensive rebounds per game and generate a number of second chance scoring opportunities.

Tip off is set for 6pm on Saturday night.
