Four Trojans make All Star List

Four Trojans make All Star List

The Trojan's Men's Soccer season came up short of their goal to advance to the NWAC Final Four at Starfire Stadium for the first time since 1989, however the team had much to hang their hats on.  The team qualified for the playoffs for the second straight season under 3rd year head coach Erik Cruz, a former EvCC Trojan alum.  EvCC Men's Soccer records were also set this season.  Freshman Goalkeeper Gabriel Acosta recorded 4 shutouts, tied for the most by any goalkeeper in any single season in program history.   Gregor Byrne scored 10 goals this season to go along with last year's 16, to give him a total of 26 for his career, making him the all time career leading goal scorer at EvCC.  Gregor also has the most career points with 57.   This years team also set records with 49 goals scored, tied for the most in program history to go along with 12 wins which is the most in program history.

Yesterday this list of accomplishments for the 2018 grew as four members of the team were named to the  All Region team.

No surprise that Gregor Byrne, Everett native and Cascade High grad, was named to the All Region team for his second straight year.  His 10 goals was tied for 2nd most in the North Region, and 9th overall in leading goal scorers among all NWAC players. This year's team also had a very strong freshman class, one that saw three selected for the All Region team.   Midfielder Mamadi Sarr, from Banjul Gambia was a huge presence for the Trojans this year.  At 6'0", he often was the first one to the ball, getting his head on several, scoring 4 goals this season, and recording 2 assists.  Another international student, freshman Nahor Asso from Indonesia was a strong defender and played some defensive midfield as well.  The key piece to the Trojan's backline this season was 6'3" Stanwood native Logan Flem.  Logan's defensive efforts lead to a 1.49 goals allowed per game average which was 3rd in the North Region and 4 shutouts is tied for 3rd most all time in EvCC Men's Soccer history.

Members of the All-Region team are invited to play in the NWAC All-Star game on November 11th, at 11:00am at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, WA.  The men's and women's all star games are played before the men's and women's NWAC Championship games.
