Bellingham, WA - On a cold October night, the Everett Trojans had their opportunities, but came up short in the 2-1 loss to Whatcom CC.  The Orcas started the game off with three shots on goal in the first two minutes of the game.  Sophomore goalkeeper Cameron Beardsley came up with a huge save in the first 20 seconds of the match and again near the two minute mark.   In fact, the first 5 shots of the game were taken by Whatcom, and it would not be until the 25th minute when Everett's Nahor Asso would record the Trojan's first shot. 

Despite the heavy pressue from the Whatcom attack, the first half ended scoreless.  Beardsley recorded 5 saves on 12 Whatcom shots, while the WCC keeper, Michael Herrera did not record any saves on 5 Everett shots, none of which were on frame, though a shot from Everett's Stevy Kama did come incredibly close just inches outside the far post. 

After the half, Whatcom started out fast again catching the Trojan defense perhaps a little stiff after the halftime break in the cold October air.  A free kick into the penalty area was not properly cleared and an Orca player found himself in position to put the first goal of the game on the board.  

The deficit grew ten minutes later when another Whatcom shot found the back of the net, putting the Trojans down 2-0 with 30 minutes to play.  The Everett offense came to life putting more pressure on the Whatcom defense, but it would not be until the 88th minute when Everett would finally score their only goal of the game.  After a handball was called in the penalty box, Mamadi Sarr put the penalty kick away to score his 7th goal of the season.

The loss marks only the second of the season for the Trojans and they still hold onto second place in the north region standings, though now just three points head of Whatcom who is now firmly in 3rd place.  The Orcas returned the favor from their earlier 2-1 loss to the Trojans back on September 14th.  The two teams will meet again in their third and final match of the regular season on October 23rd in Everett.

Everett will need to rebound after the loss quickly as they play host to Skagit Valley College this Wednesday, October 9th.  They tied Skagit 1-1 in their previous meeting.  Kick off will be at 3:30pm at Kach Park.
