Erik Cruz took the helm for his alma mater Trojans in 2016, inherting a program that had won 6 matches in the previous three years.   In two seasons, Cruz transformed the Trojans back into contenders leading them to a 9-10-3 overall record in 2017, and the first men's soccer playoff appearance since 2012. 

In 2018 Cruz tied the single season wins record with 12 and led the team to the playoffs once again as the #3 seed out of the North Region.  Then, in 2019 Erik led EvCC to a single season program record 13 wins, which included a playoff victory and a trip to the NWAC Quarterfinals for the first time since 2011.  In 2019 Erik also became the all-time winningest coach in EvCC Men's Soccer history with 36 wins.

Cruz's team have been historically productive offensively.  His 2017 and 2018 teams rank the highest in the 43-year program history with 49 goals scored in each of those seasons.  Defensively and most recently in 2019, the team finished the year with 1.32 goals allowed which ranks 3rd fewest in men's soccer history at EvCC.  

Prior to his head position with the men's team, he served as an assistant coach for the women's soccer team from 2013-2015 under Geogg Kittle, the winningest coach in EvCC women's soccer history.  In those three seasons the Trojans tallied 46 wins, 14 players receieved all region honors, and in 2014 the team won the north region championship as well as the coveted NWAC title.  

Cruz began his coaching career as an assistant under his former coach at EvCC, Scott Willisie in 2011.  That season the Trojans qualified for the playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinals.   

A Southern California native, Erik Cruz attended High School locally at Marysville Pilchuck where he was a standout prep athlete earning himself a scholarship to play at EvCC. Cruz had two successful seasons where he was the team captain and starting goalkeeper.  In 2008 he was named to the NWAACC All Start team.
