Winfred Smith joined the Trojan Men's Soccer program in 2019 as an assistant coach, and immediately provided an impact to the 2019 squad that won 13 matches (the most in the 43-year program history) and advanced to the NWAC quarterfinals for the first time since 2011.  Four Trojans also made the All-Region team including Mamadi Sarr who was named North Region MVP.  When head coach Erik Cruz stepped down from the helm in September of 2019 after COVID-19 delayed the start of the season, Winfred Smith was named Interim Co-Head Coach along with EvCC women's coach Rafael Marins.

Prior to coaching for the Trojans, Winfred volunteered his time coaching at Mariner High School, before later becoming the boys JV coach. "The high school-college connection creates a solid link between the local high schools & EvCC," stated Smith. "I'm here to ensure our incredible student athletes not only learn of their limitless potential, but also confidently & wholly apply themselves in every aspect of life."

Winfred was born in Seattle & raised in Edmonds Washington. At the age of five Sno-King Youth Soccer sparked a lifelong love for Coach Win. At age eleven he began select soccer with South County Select who later became the Northwest Nationals. Winfred and his Nemesis teammates won three consecutive State titles at U-15 through U-17 and second place U-18.  His high school career at Meadowdale produced three letters, as well as first team all-conference & first team all-area honors.

After graduating Meadowdale in 2001 he attended Edmonds CC to play soccer but was sidelined with an injury. A year later he turned his attention to football and headed south to the College of the Canyons in Valencia, California, before returning to the pacific northwest in 2003 for the birth of his son. The boots were exchanged for several years while Winfred served in the United States Army, but his love for the game would not subside and he returned to the field playing both outdoor & indoor semi-pro.

Winfred has been employed at Boeing since 2012 and resides in south Everett.
