Trojans Drop a Pair in North Region Opener

Edmonds Community College softball, and rivals to the South looked to pick up the 2019 season right where they left off in 2018 as NWAC title contenders.  The Tritons return 8 sophomores from last years team that advanced to the final day of the NWAC championship tournament and took home 3rd place.  While the Trojans return not a single player from last years team that also found success advancing to the final 6 in the championship tournament.

Experience got the better of the Trojans as they dropped both games, the first 15-5 and the second 12-4.  In the first game, Edmonds jumped out in the first inning to a 4-0 lead on a grand slam that would set the tone for the remainder of the day.  Six more home runs would be tallied by the end of the game for Edmonds as they piled on the runs topping out at 15.  It was a tough day for starting pitcher Caddidy Conrad who went 3 innings and gave up 9 hits, 11 earned runs, and walked 6.  A bright spot for the young Trojans squad who have proven they can score runs in the first 6 games of the season averaging 6.3 per game, came in the top of the 5th trailing at that time 15-1.   Everett started a one out rally with a trio of singles followed by a double that would put two runs across.  Then one batter later two more singles would push across two more runs eventually cutting the deficit to 15-5 before Edmonds got the final out.

While Cassidy had a tough day pitching, offensively she had a great game, going 2 for 3 for the game with a double and drove in two runs.

In game #2, Everett picked up in the 1st inning where they left off in the previous game with a Megan Parsley two run homer.  But the Edmonds offense continued their prowess driving in runs in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd inning.  After Everett scored a run in the top of the 4th to bring the score to 3-5, Edmonds all but sealed the game with a big 6 run bottom of the 4th inning, and held on to sweep the day with a 12-4 win.

Everett will look to re-focus this weekend as they travel to Des Moines to face Highline College.  The Thunderbirds are 3-5 on the season, and most recently were swept in their north region opener against Douglas College of British Columbia losing 12-3 and 8-7.
