Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Everett, WA - It was a great Memorial Day weekend for the Trojans, winning three of four games against solid opponents in Bellevue and Skagit Valley College.  Everett hosted Bellevue on a beautiful Friday afternoon to get the weekend started, and held on to a 6-5 win in the first game.  Though freshman pitcher Kaylie Hoskins gave up 4 earned runs, she still displayed her true form of dominance striking out 13 batters and giving up just 5 hits.  The offense was in full support, coming up with 10 hits, highlighted by Izzy Hanson's 3-4 performance with 3 RBI's and a 2-run homerun.

Game two was a struggle, as the Bellevue bats got red hot connecting on 15 hits and 12 runs while the opposite happenend for the Trojan offense generating 4 runs on 6 hits.  Despite the game two loss, a split on the day meant a split on the season (3-3) with powerhouse Bellevue, a program that has decisivly gotten the best of EvCC over the last several years.  The win also moved Everett in position to solidify the top spot in the North Region.

Mt. Vernon, WA - The Trojans had Saturday and Sunday off before heading to Anacortes to take on Skagit Valley College on Memorial Day looking for a season sweep.  In the previous four meetings there were three one run ball games in which the Trojans bested the birds by scores of 1-0, 6-5, and 5-4.  With no guarantees of coming out with wins, Everett came in locked in and focused, determined to clinch the top spot in the North region for the first time since 2006.

The attitude was evident as Everett jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the third.  Skagit would not score until the 5th inning, but by then the Trojans had already strung together 8 runs, highlighted by Kayla Tuaoa's 2 run homer, and Mele Turner's 2 homeruns on back to back plate appearances that drove in a total of 5 runs.  Kayla Tuaoa would put the icing on the cake with the 4th homer of the ball game on a solo shot in the top of the 6th en route to the 9-2 victory.  Kaylie Hoskins was magic again allowing just 2 runs (unearned), on 4 hits, and striking out 14 batters.  Her season total improved to 158 strikeouts, 16 shy of tying the 2nd most strikeouts in a single season all time at EvCC.

The momentum carried over into game two with Everett putting up 5 runs in the first inning, followed by 11 runs in the 2nd innings to go up 16-1 by the end of the 2nd inning.  Then, Everett put up two more in the top of the third to go up 18-1.  It looked to be a complete route before put together a 5 run inning in the 4th.  The effort would be in vain as Everett still put on the 8 run rule to finish the game in 5 innings by a score of 19-8 for their highest run total of the season.  Kaylie Hoskins pitched in relief, picking up two more strikeouts bringing her season total up to 160.

Everett's amazing season will come to a close on Wednesday with a final doubleheader against Edmonds.  The Trojans have won 7 of 8 games against EC this season and game times are set for 11am and 1pm at Triton Field.
