One to Remember

Lynnwood, WA – In the final doubleheader of the season, EvCC Softball closed out the unique 2021 season in the best manner possible, a sweep over rival Edmonds, and posting a season record of 20-4.  Without an NWAC playoff due to COVID-19 protocols, the Trojans will not advance to post season play, but did finish atop the North Region standings as officially the unofficial North Region Champions.  This is the first time the Trojans have finished #1 in the North standings since 2007.

Game one on the day was an absolute pitchers dual as Kaylie Hoskins and Nadia Delzer went toe to toe with 6 shutout innings apiece.  The tie was broken after a solo shot in the top of the 7th from Kayla Tuaoa, delivering with 2 outs.  With the one run lead the defense went to work and the last three Edmonds batters were retired in order.  Kaylie Hoskins finished the game giving up just 4 hits and striking out 13 batters.

Game two featured more offense from both teams, and it would be a big six run, 2nd inning from EvCC that would set the tone for the remainder of the game.  Edmonds responded with three runs in the bottom of the second, and cut the lead to one by the 5th.  More top of the 7th magic for the Trojans as Mele Turner homered to give EvCC some breathing room at 7-5.  With one out in the bottom of the 7th the Tritons had runners on 2nd and 3rd.  A fly ball by Edmonds' Fridell was sent out to right field which was caught by Jazmine McMiller.  With the runner tagging, and in epic fashion to close out the season Jaz rifled the ball home and catcher Madison German made the tag to secure the final out, and the 7-5 victory.

For head coach Randy Smith in his 19th season he brought his career win total to 389 and for all that watched this team play this season, it was certainly one to remember.
