Trojans Show Well in First Meet of the Season

Nathan McGinty started the day strong by running a strong 35:58.15 to debut in the 10k, likely qualifying him for the NWAC Championships at the end of May. The Men's team continued this momentum with Isaiah Funston placing 5th in his heat in the 1500, running 4:21.64. Teammate Galmo Said competed in the same heat, running 4:41.49. Tim Mandzyuk also had a great run in the Men's 3000m steeplechase, running 10:23.89 in his debut. This mark is just shy of the NWAC auto qualifier, and places him 18th on the EvCC School Record list.

The Women also had a great day led by Ellee London winning her heat of the 1500m, running 5:12.57. Teammate Maylynn Cendejas competed in the same heat running a time of 6:00.39. Sandra Hart was the only community college runner in the Women's 800m, and she placed 8th, running a time of 2:36.63 to start the season.

Coach Tansey Lystad stated, "We are very proud with how our athletes competed in this first meet. Nearly all of their competitors are from highly competitive Division II schools that have been racing since January. Our athletes held their own to start the season, and we have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks! With such a young group, it's hard to know how they will handle the transition from high school running to collegiate racing, and they all proved that they are ready to be top competitors this season!"
