Everett Community College track and field competed at the Doris Heritage Track Festival at West Seattle Stadium this past weekend against top level four-year universities including the University of Washington.
Men's Highlights
- Tim Mandzyuk placed second in the 3000m steeplechase, running a 13 second PR of 10:10.11 and automatically qualifying for the NWAC Championships. His time is currently leading the NWAC, and is 16th all-time at EvCC.
- Isaiah Funston won his heat of the 800m, debuting in 2:00.57, and placing 4th in the meet overall. This time ranks him 3rd in the NWAC by a mere .38 seconds, and is his fastest season opener by nearly 4 seconds.
- Kyle Duncan opened his season with a solid pair of marks in the 100m and 200m, running 11.74 for 12th, and 23.66 for 21st, respectively. He is currently ranked 8th and 9th in these events in the NWAC.
- Geoffrey McGaughey threw 153'1" in the Javelin, placing 7th in the finals and ranking him 10th in the NWAC. He is likely qualified for the Championships.
- Freshman Jake Donovan placed 5th in his first competition for EvCC, throwing 37'10.75" in the shot put, placing him 5th in the NWAC.
- Galmo Said and Nathan McGinty both ran the 5000m, placing 4th and 8th in their heat. Said's time of 16:56.75 is a 36 second improvement from his time last year in the event. They are ranked 11th and 13th in the NWAC respectively.

When asked about the men's performance, coach Tansey Lystad had this to say, "I am incredibly impressed with how our athletes competed today. This meet was much more competitive than expected, with the addition of the University of Washington squad, and our athletes did a good job of competing to the best of their ability on the day. It was the first meet of the season for Kyle, Geoffrey, and Jake, and they all rose to the occasion, and having Tim auto qualify for the NWAC championships this early in the season, as a freshman, is incredibly exciting."
Women's Highlights
- Ellee London ran consistently in the 1500, running 5:14.68. Maylynn Cendejas also ran in the 1500, running a 15 second PR of 5:44.89. They are currently ranked 2nd and 7th in the NWAC.
- Sandra Hart had another strong showing in the 800m, running a 5 second improvement to a season's best of 2:31.56. She is currently ranked 3rd in the NWAC.
- Taylor Dewing debuted her sophomore season by running 17.68 in the 100m Hurdles, good for 8th in the NWAC. This is a 1 second improvement from her debut last year.
- Mona Kahsai started her freshman season strong for EvCC, running 1:04.82 in the 400m, which ranks her 6th in the NWAC and 17th all-time at Everett.

Coach Lystad on the women's performances, "The Women had another great day. I'm especially impressed by how they all handled the upper-level competition. Our 3 distance runners ran better races tactically than their first meet out, and Mona and Taylor both had good debuts for the season. Our group is young, but they raced with maturity."
Trojan Track and Field will travel south to Salem, OR next weekend to compete at the Willamette Invitational, a meet that features NCAA DI, DII, and DIII schools along with several NWAC schools.
