Bulldogs Edge Trojans

Everett fell in their third straight conference game on Wednesday night to the Bulldogs of Bellevue College by a final score of 84-71. The loss moves the Trojans to 5th in the North Region standings, one position out of the 4th playoff spot entering the last half of conference play.

After a rough 1st half of shooting the ball, going just 9 of 38 from the floor (23.6%), Everett came out in the second half with a more balanced scoring attack and were able to cut into the ten point halftime deficit, entering the 4th quarter only trailing by 4 after being down by as much as 19 with 6:30 to go in the 3rd quarter.

The last quarter of action would require a solid defensive effort, and a better job keeping Bellevue off of the boards to have a chance of pulling off the upset on the road.  Despite scoring 21 points in the 4th quarter, the Trojans could not come up with the big stops when they needed them, and Bellevue built the lead back to a ten point cushion with 7 minutes to go and never let EvCC get any closer than 8.

Serafina Balderas finished with 25 pionts, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals while Hannah Hezekiah added 22 points, 5 steals, and 6 rebounds.  Kelsey Mellick did the majority of her work on the glass collecting 12 rebounds and 7 points before the game ended early for her after fouling out with 7:45 remaining in the game.

Everett will have a much needed week off, before starting the 2nd half of North region play next Wednesday at home against 1st place Skagit Valley.  Tip off is set for 5pm.
