Memorial Day Madness

Everett, WA -  Chalk up two more wins for the women's basketball team as they ground out two solid road wins over the Memorial Day weekend.  On Saturday, Everett traveled north to Bellingham for their 2nd meeting of the season with the Orcas.  The two teams last met in Bellingham back on April 24th, and WCC got the better of that meeting with an 85-70 win.  The other two scheduled contests at Everett were canceled due to COVID protocols so once again Everett made the trek north, but this time the result was different as the red hot Trojans came away with a 58-50 win.  Sydney VanNess led the way with 20 points and 9 rebounds, marking the 4th time this season that she has eclipsed the 20 point mark and 10 straight games scoring 10 or more points.

Memorial Day Monday on the road at Olympic turned out to be a much closer affair than the last meeting with the Rangers that resulted in a 20 point win.  Despite the shooting struggles early, and trailing by 8 at halftime, the Trojans responded with a solid 3rd quarter outscoring OC 18-6 and holding on to the narrow lead for the duration of the 4th quarter.  Freshman guard Thuyvi Tran had a big final quarter with 8 points, and finishing with 13 on the night (tying a season high).  Mikail Montez had another monster night on the glass hauling in 14 rebounds to go along with her 7 points.  And once again Sydney VanNess led EvCC in scoring with 17.

Everett will play the last two games of the season at home, looking to keep the win streak alive, currently at 6 games.
