Everett, WA - The 2023-2024 EvCC Women's Basketball season is underway and was kicked off with a pair of scrimmages against Northwest Indian College.  The Trojans first hosted the Eagles back on October 23rd, and it was great to see returners mix in with the newcomers in a competitive game setting.  Both teams played their entire bench and everyone got minutes.  The Trojan offense looked good in the first quarter but struggled defensively as NWIC put up 16 points.  Everett ended the scrimmage with 49 points, led by Baylor Thomas' 18 but defensively the Trojans found out they had some things to work on as they gave up 61 to the Eagles.

The two teams met up again to scrimmage two weeks later, giving both teams a rare, early season opportunity to play an opponent a second time, review film, and execute a game plan, and make adjustments to the first contest.  EvCC took the task to hand, and jumped out to a 23-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The defensive pressure was turned up, forcing 14 first quarter turnovers.  The offense looked good too, putting up 39 first half points.

EvCC had a sluggish third quarter and was outscored 12-9, but finished the game strong, and going away with a final score of 69-53.  Freshman Baylor Thomas again had a nice game scoring 17 points, but the Trojans were this time led in scoring by a different freshman, Perla Ruiz who scored 23 on 8 of 14 shooting and also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals.  Another freshman Jada Andresen led the team with 7 rebounds and also scored in double figures with 11 points.  Elsa Cajune had a solid game of the bench playing 17 minutes, and adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 6 points on 3 of 5 shooting.

Everett will have one final scrimmage before the regular season starts on November 17th.  EvCC will host Northwest University's JV team next week on November 15th, and then will open up the regular season on the road with a game against Tacoma CC.
