Chet Hovde, the longest tenured head coach in the Everett CC Athletic Department, began his career at EvCC in 1978 when women's basketball became officially sanctioned in the Northwest Athletic Conference.  While serving as the assistant men's coach, Chet became the head coach for the Lady Trojans midway through the '78-'79 season.  He would finish out the year before accepting the head coaching position with the women's basketball team at his alma mater, University of Puget Sound.  The Loggers had two winning seasons with Hovde before he decided to return to Everett CC where he was an assistant for the women's basketball team under Doug Nixon for the 1982-1983 season.  

Chet would get another head coaching position at rival Edmonds Community College in the 1985-1986 season.  He took over a program that could not consistently fill a full roster and took the Tritons to two straight 20 win seasons for the first time in program history, finishing the '86-'87 season 4th in the NWAACC and is to date the highest finish in Edmonds CC women's basketball history. 

His success would bring him back to his hometown of Everett for the '88-'89 season, where he would head the women's basketball at Everett CC for the next 30 seasons.  Over his 32 year career as the head women's basketball coach at Everett, Hovde has amassed 466 wins, has gone to the NWAC playoffs 11 times and has won the North Region Championship twice. 

The 2019-2020 season marks Coach Hovde's 42nd year coaching at EvCC, and his 34th year as the head women's basketball coach.

The Everett native was a 1st team all state basketball recruit at Everett High before he was recruited on a full ride scholarship to the University of Washington in 1965.  He played for the Huskies for two seasons before transferring to the University of Puget Sound to finish out his junior and senior year, earning his bachelors degree in education. 

Chet has 3 children and 7 grandchildren.  His son Ryan coached Cross Country at Clark College in Vancouver Washington, where the women's team won the NWAC Championship in 2010.
