The Trojans swept the Dolphins in the three game season series on Wednesday afternoon on the road after a 4-0 shutout. In three games this season, the Trojans have outscored the Dolphins 13-1, and have dominated offensive possession.
Everett took an early lead in the 11th minute with a goal from Giavanna Tift, her second of the season on an assist from Emily Newt-Fears. But the remainder of the first half was very evenly played. Both keepers were tested having to make 4 saves apiece. The Shoreline offense was able to get off 5 shots, while the Trojan offense created 6 opportunities.
Moments before the first half would come to an end, Shorline midfielder, Izabella Murray picked up a red card, forcing the Dolphins to play the remainder of the game with 10 players on the field.
The second half picked up offensively for the Trojans, taking advantage of the Shoreline playing down a player. Jaylin Baah-Yeboah scored her 8th goal of the season (leads the team) in the 67th minute on another assist from Emily Newt-Fears who now leads the team in assists with 4 on the year. This was her second game of the year in which she tallied two assists.
The win was all but secured in the 77th minute on a goal from sophomore Mayu Nagaike with her 4th goal on the season. Then in the final moments of the game, freshman defender Elizabeth Erickson scored her first career goal as a Trojan as icing on the cake.
With the win the Trojans improved their North region record to 5-9-0, and move within one point of Skagit Valley College in the North Region Standings. Everett will play Skagit Valley College in the final game of the year on sophomore day, this Saturday at 12:00pm. With a win the Trojans could move ahead of Skagit Valley in the standings and finish in 4th place, just one placing out of a playoff spot.
In 2017, first year head coach Rafael Marins lead the Trojans to a 4-8-3 North Region record and finished 4th in the North. 2018 has proven to be much more competitive in the region, so an improvement to a 6-9-0 record will build great momentum heading into the off-season and preparing for the 2019 campaign.
