Olivia Lee Leads Trojans in 6-0 Route

Olivia Lee Leads Trojans in 6-0 Route

Everett, WA - The second place Trojans had a little something to prove coming in to today's match versus Shoreline, and it showed on the scoreboard.  Last weekend, the Trojans found themselves up 2-0 to Edmonds in the first 11 minutes of the match, but then got perhaps too comfortable with the lead, and gave up two late goals and having to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Today, the Trojans again started quick getting a goal within the first three minutes of the game.  Olivia Lee found Caitlynn Daniel off of a corner kick set piece who headed the ball into the back of the net.  Then in the 20th minute a Shoreline Own Goal was set up off of a Trojan free kick.  Freshman defender, Cassidy Gamble sent a dangerous ball into the box from 40 yards out, and a Shoreline defender mis-hit the ball with her head and into the back of the net.  Up two goals, the defense held strong and only allowed two Shoreline shots, only one on goal that freshman goalkeeper Alexius McKinney was able to collect without trouble.

The second half started out in a blaze for the Trojans and in less than one minute built the lead up to three. Another Olivia Lee corner kick found the head of Caitlynn Daniel for her second goal of the match.  The sophomore defender from Cascade High in Everett only had one career goal before today's match, which she got almost one year ago to the date against none other than Shoreline.

The Trojans would get two more goals within the next five minutes.  Olivia Lee in the 48th when she beat the keeper in a 1v1 situation and in the 50th minute, Cassidy Gamble would connect on her second career goal off of a corner kick played short to Hannah Heister who played the ball to Peyton Nolte.  Nolte sent the cross over that found Gamble's head on the far post.

The final nail came in the 56th, completing a four-goal onslaught in 11 minutes.  Olivia Lee fired a shot from just outside of the box that deflected off of a defender.  Sophomore Elizabeth Erickson found herself in position to collect the rebound and finish off the play for her 5th goal of the season, and 6th of her career.  For Lee, she was involved in four of the Trojans six goals this afternoon, recording three assists and a goal.  Olivia now has six goals and seven assists on the season.

With the win, the Trojans collect three more points and stay two points ahead of third place Whatcom.  The battle for 2nd and 3rd in North Region will come head to head this Saturday when the Trojans travel to Bellingham to face the Orcas.  Kick off is slated for 5pm.
