Trojans Sweep the Tritons

Everett, WA - Without any question, the Everett CC men's soccer team came in to today's game with a need to win attitude.  They had previously lost three straight matches and fallen out of their number two spot in the north region standings.  Now, in the final third of conference play, the Trojans came out re-focused and poised to make a run at securing home field advantage in the playoffs.

Against their rivals, the Trojans controlled nearly every minute of the match.  It was the 28th minute when Manuel Segura scored on a free kick from 25 yards out.  His shot deflected off of a defender and past the Triton keeper to get the Trojans on the board first.  Goal Highlight

Then in the 34th minute, Trojan leading goal scorer Mamadi Sarr on a one hop header, again off of a free kick from Manuel Segura. Goal Highlight

With a 2-0 lead going into the second half, Everett continued to apply pressure and had several opportunities to extend the lead, but could not quite connect.  Edmonds showed a spark in the 54th minute with a goal of their own on a momentary lapse in the Trojan defense.

With regained composure Everett held on to the one goal lead comfortably until the final 5 minutes of the game.  Through a steady rain Edmonds applied pressure and threatened to create opportunities but in the end time would not be on their side and Everett prevailed for their 9th win on the season and more importantly three points in the north region standings.

The win puts Everett three points behind 2nd place Whatcom and the Trojans will have a date with the Orcas next Wednesday in an important home match that could have home field playoff implications.

Before that, the Trojans will need to focus on Shoreline CC when they travel to Twin Ponds Park in Shoreline, WA for a late Saturday night match on October 19th.  Kick off is set for 8:00pm.
