Defense Improves

Everett, WA - The tough non-conference schedule continued on Friday for the women's soccer team as they hosted 2-1 North Idaho College at Kasch Park.  After opening up the season with a 3-1 loss over Lower Columbia, NIC rattled off two straight 1-0 victories heading into the contest, while Everett was still nursing a host of injuries and searching for an answer offensively.

North Idaho set the tone early and punched in a goal at the 5 minute mark after a Yaritza Pelayo save bounced right to Cardinal forward, Addison Mculloch who capitalized on the empty net.  Everett looked to settle in defensively, though the offense struggled to maintain possession.  A heavy dose of NIC attack led to another goal in the 25th minute, once again initiated down the right side.  A perfectly placed cross found Reese Leichtfuss who controlled the ball beautifully and beat Pelayo.

Trailing 2-0, Everett continued to play on their heels but held fast and did not concede another goal.  Yaritza Pelayo played the entire game in goal for the Trojans and recorded 11 saves.  The NIC keeper was rarely tested and ended the game with a single recorded save that came in the 2nd half off of a Sydney VanNess free kick.

Despite starting out the season 0-3, the Trojans have shown steady improvement over the last two weeks and will have the opportunity to start with a blank slate when they host Shoreline to open up North Region play on Saturday, September 11th.  The seven day break will provide some much needed recovery for a number of Trojans that are dealing with nagging injuries.  Kick off is set for 4pm.
