Trojans Get 2nd Win in a Row

Trojans Get 2nd Win in a Row

Bellingham, WA – After a big 1-0 win over Bellevue at home, the Trojans got on the road Wednesday night for a big matchup against the Orcas of Whatcom Community College.  Entering the contest, the standings in the north were incredibly close in places 2nd through 5th, with a single win separating the four teams.

At 20 goals through 6 matches, the Orcas ranked near the bottom in the NWAC in goals allowed giving the Trojans an opportunity to capitalize on their nearly 3 goals scored per match average.  But despite the numbers, and despite getting off four shots on goal within the first 20 minutes of the match, Everett did not see the ball go into the net.  Whatcom was able to generate some offense but only mustered 3 shots, 1 on goal in the same time frame.  Neither team would get a clear advantage until just before half, Paige Runcorn connected on her 3rd goal of the season, and her first since back on August 27th

The second half remained to be evenly contested and featuring solid defensive efforts by both teams.  Everett earned four corners and got off 5 shots (3 on goal) but nothing was ultimately able to get past the Whatcom keeper.  The one goal however was all the Trojans would need as the defense held stout, only allowing one shot to be on frame in the second half, and it was saved by Vanessa Perez

The win marks the second in a row for EvCC and moves them firmly into 3rd place in the north region standings, and just one point behind 2nd place Skagit Valley College.  That sets up a critical match this Saturday where Everett will travel to Mount Vernon to take on the Cardinals of Skagit Valley.  Match time is set for 12:00pm.
