Trojans Fall Short in North Region Opener

The EvCC Volleyball team hosted Olympic College on Wednesday night at the Walt Price Center on the campus of Everett Community College.  This marked the opening of North Region play in which the Trojans will enjoy a three game home stand.

Olympic entered the night with an 11-11 record, while the Trojans had their struggles early, but showed marked improvement with each match going 3-14 against a tough non-conference schedule.

In the first set, the Rangers jumped out to a lead that would never be relinquished. The Trojans would keep it close, never trailing by more than 5 points, and would cut it to as close as 3 at 17-20.  But OC was ultimately able to close out the match 25-19.

The second set showed earlier control by the Trojans holding the lead all the way up to 13-12.  OC tied the set at 13 and did not look back and strung together a couple of 3 point runs that put the set out of reach for the Trojans, again falling 19-25.

After the break, set 3 began with high intensity as the determined Trojans got down early but kept it within 2 points.  OC went on a 4 point run to take a 14-10 lead, only to be answered by EvCC with a 4 point run of their own thansk to 2 kills from Eseta Samita and a service ace from sophomore Meghan Barger to tie it back up at 14.  More exchanges of points would see the game tied at 18 before Everett would take a set point lead of 24-21.  Just when it looked like Everett was poised to win the set, Olympic rattled off six points to claim the set and the match.

Everett will need to rebound quickly as their next match will be on Friday, at home vs Whatcom.  The Orcas opened up their North region campaign with a loss to #7 ranked Bellevue College.
