Trojans Sweep Northwest Region Championships

On a beautiful, crisp October morning the Everett CC Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were ready for a top level performance.  Will Tucker Park in Snohomish, WA was the setting for the Norwest Region Championship Cross Country Meet featuring men's and women's NWAC teams from Green River College, Olympic College, and Everett Community College.

The first race of the day was the men's 5k.  This was the first and only race of the year at this distance for the men, as they are normally acustomed to an 8k.  With a shorter course, the pack was fairly tight for most of the race.  However with about 1,000 meters to go the top 8 began to seperate and make their surges for the finish.  Four of those eight were Everett runners, and it was freshman Tim Mandzyuk that would take home the first place medal with a time of 17:00.  Teammate Isaiah Funston was 9 seconds behind him for 2nd place overall at 17:09 and another teammate Galmo Said was just two seonds behind him for a time of 17:11.

Even with the 1,2,3 finish Green River College made the total team points interesting as they would go on to finish 4 through 7 and placed their 5th runner 10th securing all five runners inside the top 10.  Everett would place their 4th and 5th runners just high enough to secure the 1st place team finish by a final score of 29 to 32.  Olympic rounded out the team scores finishing with 59 points.

2018 marked the second straight year that a Trojan would win the meet as well as the team finishing in first place.  Full Results

The women's race followed the men's, and it would once again be the Trojans that put on a dominating performance.  Everett finished 1st through 4th and placed their 5th runner 7th overall for an overwhelming team score of 17.  Olympic would finish 2nd with 55 points, and Green River rounded out the team scoring with 68 points.

Danielle Bauder won the meet with a time of 19:16, and teammates Ellee London, Andrea Padilla, and Kaitlin Morgan would finish in succession with times of 20:31, 20:57 and 21:40 respectively. Full Results.

The Trojans will spend the next two weeks training for the NWAC Championship meet on November 10th in Lacey, WA at St. Martin's University.
