Trojans Soar Over Dolphins

Trojans Soar Over Dolphins

Everett, WA -  EvCC last played the Dolphins three weeks ago in Shoreline and came away with the 3-1 win.  They were looking for a repeat performance and they got just that.  From the opening whistle the Trojans dominated possession and put pressure on the Shoreline defense, but it was not until the 26th minute when they finally cracked the score column.  Freshman Emmanuel Margarito played a ball into the Shoreline backline that was chased down by sophmore Mamadi SarrSarr beat the keeper and then fired a shot that deflected off of a Shoreline defender and into the goal.  Four minutes later the Trojans would strike again and in a familiar way.  Cade Cooke took a throw in that soared into the box, over the outstretched goalkeepers arm and right onto the foot of Emmanuel Margarito who calmly put the ball away for the first goal in his collegiate career.

Just as it looked like Everett would go into the half with the lead, the Dolphins earned a penalty kick when freshman goalkeeper Noah Sawdon received a yellow card for an apparent hold on a Shoreline striker.  The penalty kick was capitalized on to send the game into the half with a 2-1 Trojan lead.

Everett would continue to control the game, but it would be 15 minutes into the 2nd half before they would strike again.  Once again Cade Cooke took a throw in and sent it into the box.  This time he found Mamadi Sarr who flicked the ball back with his head and right to an unmarked Stevy Kama who finished off the play.  The goal was his 4th of the season and for Cade Cooke it was his 6th assist of the season, most of them coming off of throw-ins.

Shoreline would again draw a penalty kick just three minutes later after the last goal and would bring the game back to a one goal Trojan advantage at 3-2.

EvCC was not quite finished and extended to a more comfortable 2-goal lead on a nice play from two freshman in the 71st minute.  Antonio Latino found Anthony Garcia on a through ball  and he finished with a nice left footed shot past the keeper.  For Garcia it was his first collegiate goal and for Latino it was his first collegiate assist.

Everett would go on to win 4-2, and freshman goalkeeper Noah Sawdon finished the game with 2 saves.

The Trojans hold strong onto second place in the North Region Standings, now 6 points ahead of Whatcom and 3 behind Peninsula.  EvCC will travel to Bellingham on Saturday to face Whatcom for the second time the season.  Everett got the better of the first meeting with a 2-1 win.  Game time is set for 7pm.
