Bounce Back Win for Trojans

Bounce Back Win for Trojans

The Everett CC women's basketball team bounced back on Saturday afternoon with a 78-52 win over the visiting South Puget Sound CC Clippers.  The win marks the 3rd of the season and came off the heals of a game played just 13 hours prior when the Trojans fell to Chemeketa CC.  That game ended at 12:30am with this one starting at 1:00pm on the same day.

With a short bench on short rest the Trojans made no excuses and jumped out to a 26-7 lead by the end of the 1st quarter.  Stout defense and hot outside shooting propelled Everett CC led by Serafina Balderas who made three 3's with Hannah Hezekiah chipping in another two off the bench.  The defence also forced 7 turnovers.

Offense continued for the Trojans who put up another 22 points in the 2nd quarter, but South Puget Sound kept it from completely getting out of hand by scoring 18 of their own.  Still the Trojans went into the half with their most impressive half of the season with a 25-48 lead.

Outside shooting in the 3rd quarter went cold for EvCC, going 0-5 from beyond the arc on just 6 of 18 shooting.  Despite the slow offensive start to the second half, the defense still held the Clippers to 16 points and kept a comfortable 20 point cusion heading into the final quarter.  Defense stayed consistent and the shooting picked up in the 4th quarter lead by Kelsey Mellick who shot 3-5 from the floor en route to her best offensive game of the year finishing with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

The Trojans cruised to their 3rd win on the season and look forward to a day off tomorrow before they host Douglas College of Canada on Monday.
