Tired Legs Come Up Short

Tired Legs Come Up Short

It was a tale of all four quarters in Saturday afternoon's rivalry showdown between Everett Community College and Edmonds Community College.  Both teams still fighting for a playoff spot as the North Region is wide open with only two wins separating first place from 7th place.  In a game where the Trojans, played 6 players to the Triton's 15, it would unquestionably come down to whether or not the fresh legs would prevail over tired ones.

Everett struggled from the opening tip offensively shooting just 9 of 41 in the first half, but despite these struggles only found themselves trailing by three at the half.  Nine points from freshman Kelsey Mellick in the first quarter, seven points from sophomore Serafina Balderas in the 2nd quarter and a balanced 8 points from Hannah Hezekiah helped the Trojans keep pace offensively, while pressure defense forced 10 first half turnovers by the Tritons.

In the third quarter the Trojans finally found their rhythm coming out and shooting 9-17, 52.9% from the floor, getting contribution from five different players and entered the 4th and final quarter with a one point lead.

But it was in the 4th quarter that the tired legs started to show against the Tritons who played all 15 players in uniform and consistently rotated 10 players.  Everett was outscored 23-11 in the final quarter, and ultimately succumbed 59-70.

Everett will look to bounce back on Wednesday night at home against the 6-3 Olympic Rangers who are currently in a three way tie for first place in the log jammed standings of the North Region.  At 5-5 Everett very much has a chance to get back into playoff contention and win on Wednesday would go a long way in accomplishing that task.  Tip off is set for 5pm on Larry Walker Court at the Walt Price Center.
