1947, 1948, and 1949 Men’s Track and Field

All three of these teams won the state championship, and many of the athletes played in two of these three years, so the committee voted to induct all three at the same time. The team in 1947 dominated the first-ever junior college state track meet and was led by coach Bill McLaughlin. Dick Skinner was the state champion in the pole vault and high hurdles, Clarence Tiessen won the high jump, Harold Ramaley placed first in the javelin, and Andy Martinis came home with the first place trophy in the discus.

In 1948, runner Bob Bruce led the team with an undefeated season in the mile and the 880, which led to his participation in the national meet where he placed third. The team, coached by Bill Madden, scored 59 points at the state meet, with second place Olympic coming in at 29 ¾.  In 1949, the Bill McLaughlin came back to coach the team to a third straight state championship, led once again by Bob Bruce’s performance in the 880 and the mile.
