Solid Start to Fall Ball

Solid Start to Fall Ball

Everett, WA - For any collegiate baseball program, fall is a time to develop, evaluate incoming freshman and returners, and establish a positive culture that is going to carry through the winter months and into the first contests in late February.  For the Trojans it is also a time to welcome in new skipper, Parker Guinn.  The defending North Region Champs fully expect to continue the winning tradition, and once again compete not only for a North Region crown, but also an NWAC Championship.

Fall is where the new season campaign begins and after two weekends of scrimmages it appears as though the Trojans will have plenty of talent to make another run at a title.  Coach Guinn knows there is a long way to go and a lot of work to do before his club is ready for a full 50 game season, but has been impressed with the start and particularly with the pitching and defense.  In 33 innings thus far, the Trojans have only allowed 8 runs for a team 2.19 ERA and have thrown every available arm for at least a couple of innings.

As good as the pitching has looked, the offense appears as if it will hold its own in the 2022 season as well.  In 217 team plate appearances, with 16 players getting 9 or more, the Trojans have combined for a .349 on base percentage, with 44 hits, 14 of those were extra base hits including 4 home runs.  Returner Dylan Matsuoka led the charge going 7 for 14 with 4 doubles and 2 home runs.  Another returner Ben Steck also went .500 with 5 hits and drew 2 walks.  Incoming true freshman Sheehan O'Connor had 5 hits in 11 at bats.  And another performance of note, redshirt freshman Drew Biggerstaff, went 4 of 13 with a double and a home run.

The Trojans have a little over three weeks left of fall ball, with two more planned scrimmages against local scout teams and a trip to Ellensburg to play against Central Washington University.  They will conclude the fall season with the annual Trojan World Series, a best of 7 inter-squad series that is always highly competitive with plenty of bragging rights on the line.

Everett will next play PNW Scout team this Sunday at Memorial Stadium.
