Trojans Top Pirates

Everett, WA – The Trojans entered Wednesday night's contest having won three of the last four games, but the last two matchups against Peninsula have resulted in close game defeats.  Looking to settle the score, Everett jumped out to an 11-0 run led by Jake Howe and Cam Millican.  But the early game run would be answered by 13 straight points from Peninsula to indicate there would be no home team route tonight.

Brycen Dillworth stopped the bleeding by drawing a foul and converting on two consecutive free throws to tie the game at 13.  From then both teams would exchange blows with four lead changes heading into the five-minute media timeout break.  Everett came out scoring the next seven points, but Peninsula wouldn't back down and the Trojans went into the break with a three-point lead at 36-33.

Out of the half both teams found their touch offensively after a defensive battle in the first twenty minutes.  Everett stretched the lead out to ten by the eight-minute mark forcing Peninsula to call a timeout.   Cam Millican, after scoring seven points in the first half was now up to 17 on the game.

The ten-point cushion shrunk to five by the final media timeout at the three-minute mark.  Out of the timeout, teams would exchange buckets, and the lead would remain five with just under a minute to go at 74-69.  After a Trojan turnover, Peninsula hit a three with 41.4 seconds remaining, and Everett would elect to take their final timeout.

After a traveling violation on Everett, Peninsula would take possession but Brendon Redford came up big with a steal.  The Pirates fouled to put Everett on the line, but a missed free throw on the front end of the one and one gave Peninsula one last opportunity with 4.7 seconds remaining.  Off of the baseline inbounds, Keith Seldon put up a three for the win, but it was blocked by EvCC freshman Tony MacArthur to seal the win.

Cam Millican finished the game with 21 points and led all scorers.  Brendon Redford chipped in 15 points and had a monster game on the glass, grabbing 14 rebounds.  Point guard Brycen Dillworth finished with 11 points and dished out 5 assists.

Everett improves to 9-6 on the season with the next game slated for next Wednesday at home against Skagit Valley.  Tip off is slated for 7pm.
