Everett, WA - After 4.5 weeks since their last contest, the Trojan's men's basketball team finally got back to the Walt Price Center for a game. When COVID cases across the NWAC spiked in late December, the conference put a halt on games, and postponed the start of conference play for two weeks. With the scheduling change, EvCC opened their season against a 7-2 Shoreline team that has one of the best defenses in the league, holding opponents to 39% shooting which ranks 1st in the league.
The long lay-off combined with Shorelines defensive presence led to a rough shooting night for Everett, who ended the game shooting 32.8% from the floor and uncharacteristically 39% from the free throw line. Those two totals rank the lowest of the season, and ultimately became too difficult to overcome. Cam Millican had an opportunity for a buzzer beating three at the end, but it came off left of the rim, and the Trojans fell in the north region opener 63-61. Brendon Redford led EvCC with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Christian Zamora came off the bench and put up 13 on 4-8 shooting.
The memory will have to be short, as the Trojans will go on the road this Saturday to play #2 ranked (11-2) Bellevue who is coming off of a big 88-62 win over Whatcom on Wednesday night. That game is scheduled for a 4pm tip off.
