Six-Year Drought for Olympic Snapped

Six-Year Drought for Olympic Snapped

Everett, WA – The Trojans returned to the Walt Price Center for another north region showdown, this time against the red-hot Rangers of Olympic College, winners of 6 of their last 7 ball games.  With confidence on their own home floor, Everett jumped out to a 13-1 lead, but after a Ranger timeout, six straight points by OC brought the game back close to where most thought it would be throughout.  Olympic came all the way back to tie the game at 21, but EvCC went on a 7-point run, 5 from Raefe McEnroe to take a 28-21 lead at the ten-minute media timeout.   That lead would grow to as much as 21, but a run of 14 straight points from Aundree Polk brought Olympic back to within nine by the halftime buzzer.  Nine different Trojans got into the box score with points, led by Brycen Dillworth's 11.  As a team, EvCC shot 47% from the floor and connected on 12 of 16 free throws.

The two teams played toe to toe through the first eight minutes of action and the lead was still nine for Everett at 66-57.  The Trojans then used a two-minute surge sparked by defense and hustle to extend the lead out to 17 by the ten-minute media break.

Olympic would claw back on a 12-4 run over the next four minutes that brought OC back to within nine setting up for an exciting conclusion.  With three minutes to play Olympic hit a three to cut the lead to four and after an EvCC turnover, OC converted on two free throws to draw within two.  Moments later the Rangers converted on two more free throws to tie the game at 79.

One possession later Aundree Polk gave Olympic the lead on a drive to the bucket, and after two more Everett turnovers, the Trojans all of a sudden found themselves down by six.

In the final minute of play, things did not improve for EvCC as shots did not fall when they needed them to, and ultimately it would end up to be a 91-86 loss.

Aundree Polk scored a season high 40 points to give Olympic their first win over the Trojans since January 23, 2016.

Four players scored in double figures for Everett, led by Brendon Redford's 19 points.

The memory will need to be short, as Everett will travel to Peninsula College this Saturday. The Pirates are currently 3-1 in the north region (tied for 1st) and 11-5 overall.  Tip off is set for 6:00pm.
