Trojans Win Final Game of the Season

Trojans Win Final Game of the Season

Everett, WA – The Trojans squared off with Whatcom on Wednesday night to close out the 2021-2022 season.  It would be a season that did not end the way the Trojans hoped for back in November, but in the finale, EvCC ended their season with a win on their home floor.

Everett started out flat, missing their first five shots and turning it over twice before finally getting on the board on a Brayden Quantrille lay in, three and a half minutes into the game.  Things got worse before they eventually got better as Everett fell behind 11-4 and then trailed the entire first half.  At one point, they got behind by as much as 12.  In the final five minutes of the half, Everett made a run to close the gap, going into the break trailing 48-43.

The first twelve minutes of the second half was all Trojans, outscoring Whatcom 40-14, hitting a barage of three's led by JT Smith who finished the game with five made threes.  The lead grew to as much as 21, but the foot was let off the gas, and over the next seven minutes, the Orcas fought back.  With under a minute to go it was just a four point game.  After a pair of missed free throws by EvCC, Whatcom capitalized on the other end with two made free throws of their own, and the lead was just two inside of 46 seconds.  After a series of defensive stops by both teams, Whatcom got back to the free throw line with 8 seconds left, and hit one of two, to pull within one at 96-95.

Whatcom was forced to foul on the inbound, and Brycen Dillworth calmly stepped up to hit both free throws.  Whatcom had one last attempt, but it was off and Everett survived 98-95.  Cam Millican finished his last game as a Trojan with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Brycen Dillworth in his final game put up 8 points, and dished out 4 assists.  Other notable contributors were Leon Sayers' 20 points and 7 rebounds, JT Smith's 17 points, and Raefe McEnroe's 10 points.  Eleven different Trojans ended up scoring, and all contributed in the final win of the year.
