9th Win in a Row for the Trojans in Home Win Over Bellevue

9th Win in a Row for the Trojans in Home Win Over Bellevue

Everett, WA –  The Trojans got the job done on Saturday evening with a 78-65 win over a strong Bellevue team.  Jadin Penigar had a season high 25, in his seventh game of the year scoring 20 or more points.

It was a slow offensive start to the game for Everett who typically scores in the 80's and is ranked as the 6th highest scoring offense in the NWAC. Through the first eight minutes the shots were not falling, and found themselves trailing 16-11.  Fortunately their defense (ranked 5th in the NWAC) held Bellevue to an equal struggle and with seven minutes to play in the half, it was a two point game 18-16 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs.  Bellevue used a 17-7 run to build a twelve point lead, but the Trojans were able to trim it to seven before the halftime break.  Seven different Trojans scored but no one had double digits, and Jordan Medcalf had the team high off the bench with seven.

Bellevue kept a cushion for the first seven minutes of the half, until Jadin Penigar made his third three of the game pulling EvCC to within three.  Everett did not get the lead back however until there was just under nine minutes to play on another Jadin Penigar bucket to make the score 60-59.

The last eight minutes of the game Everett returned to form and pumped out 18 points, while holding Bellevue to just six.  Jordan Medcalf came away with a steal that was punctuated with a dunk at the other end to get the crowd up on their feet.  On the ensuing possession Edwin Bouah came up with another steal and went coast to coast to put the Trojans up by ten.  From then on, Everett took the air out of the ball with long possessions, and sealed the win.

Aside from Penigar's performance, Jordan Medcalf had a great game off the bench with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, as did Tucker Molina who scored 8, and had 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, to go along with 3 blocked shots.

The win marks the 4th in a row in conference play, and the 9th in a row overall improving the record to 17-2.  Next up is a rivalry showdown and should be the hottest ticket in town against Edmonds.  Edmonds is currently undefeated in conference play as well and has a 13-2 record and ranked #5 in the NWAC coaches poll.  The game will be played in Lynnwood at Seaview Gym with a 7pm tip off on Wednesday, January 25th
