Trojans Can't Overcome Tough Shooting Night in Shoreline Loss

Everett, WA – The Trojans returned to Larry Walker court Wednesday night hoping to rebound from the four-point loss to Whatcom four nights prior.  The task would be great, taking on Shoreline who came into the game atop the north standings in a three-way tie for first place.  The Dolphins themselves were looking to bounce back from the loss that they suffered to Peninsula and in need of a win to keep pace for a shot at the north region title.

Everett got the first two points on a pair of Maddy Thoma free throws, but Shoreline went on to score the next 23 straight points.  Maddy Thoma got another bucket for the Trojans with just under three minutes to play and a 5-0 run in favor of the Trojans to close out the quarter cut into the deficit.

Trailing by fourteen to start the 2nd quarter, Everett played better defensively and held Shoreline to just five points through the first five minutes of action.  Unfortunately, it continued to be a struggle on the offensive end making just 1 of 8 from three, and 32% shooting from the floor.  In the final minutes of the half, Shoreline was able to stretch the lead out to 20 at 38-18.

The second half shooting woes continued for EvCC and Jayda Pittman got the first Trojan bucket with three minutes to play in the quarter.  Meanwhile, Shoreline continued to get good looks, shooting 52% and put on the cruise control enroute to an 83-36 win.

Grace Trichler led Everett with 13 points, her highest total in region play and made three, three point shots.  No other Trojans scored in double figures, but Maddy Thoma scored 8 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Everett's next game will be on Sunday, February 19th at Bellevue.  The Trojans gave Bellevue all they could handle a month ago despite falling behind 24-9 early.  With six minutes to go in the game, Everett brought it all the way back to within three before ultimately falling 87-75.
