Offensive Struggles Against Top Ranked Pirates

Offensive Struggles Against Top Ranked Pirates

Everett, WA – The Trojans took on the #1 ranked Peninsula Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at Kasch Park, hoping to pull of the upset and further solidify their spot in the north standings for the playoff hunt.

For the first 28 minutes, the Trojan defense held strong, but Peninsula eventually got a goal that was followed by a second just four minutes later.  The top ranked Pirates went into the half with the two goal lead and out-shooting the Trojans 6 shots to 0.

In the second half the Everett defense continued to be solid, but they struggled to generate any pressure on the offensive end.  It looked as though Peninsula would extend the lead after drawing a penalty kick late in the game, but goalkeeper Matarr Saho made an incredible save, his second PK save of the year to keep the game within reach.

In the end, Everett mustered just one shot to Peninsula's 18 (8 of those on frame in which Matarr recorded the saves).

The loss allows Skagit Valley to draw within one point in the north region standings after they defeated Edmonds by a score of 4-1.  Everett will get Edmonds at home on Saturday, for the second meeting in the "T" Trophy rivalry.  In addition to trophy points, much needed standings points will be on the line as the season winds down to the final four regular season matches.  Kick-off is set for 6:15pm at Kasch Park.
