T Trophy Point Earned

T Trophy Point Earned

Everett, WA - The Trojans have completed the first trip through the four North region opponents with a 2-2 record, and on Saturday night circled back to go through the region one more time.  It started with a date against rival Edmonds College, an opportunity to secure a point towards the coveted T-Trophy, as well as points towards the north region standings playoff hunt.  The first match up between the two teams proved that rivalries throw records out the window.  Ultimately the Trojans prevailed 2-1, scoring a goal in the 90th minute, but the match if nothing else left Edmonds with a bitter taste and confidence that they could play toe to toe with Everett.

With the Trojans now playing host to the Tritons, the two teams were evenly matched through the first 30 minutes, and in fact it would be Edmonds that would have the edge offensively with 5 shots on goal to Everett's 4.  But in the 36th minute, Everett was awarded a throw in deep in the Edmonds defensive zone.  Duglas Cruz launched a ball into the box that was headed to the front of the goal by Jackson Cole.  In a mix of Edmonds defenders, freshman Ferley Cork got his foot on the ball and sent a shot that deflected off of an Edmonds defender and into the back of the net to put EvCC on the board.  For the remainder of the half, Everett would remain the aggressors with 6 more shots, one of which on frame.  Despite the constant pressure the score would remain 1-0 heading into the break.

Edmonds regained composure in the second half and flipped the switch offensively getting five shots off to Everett's zero in the first 20 minutes.  The Everett defense did just enough to keep the opposition at bay and in the 82nd minute, the Trojans got the insurance goal they were looking for.  Liam Raney won the ball in the offensive third of the field and sent it out to Jackson Cole on the right wing.  Cole sent the ball into the box looking for River Stewart but the ball was cleared by an Edmonds defender.  The ball came right back to Jackson who returned the ball back, this time finding Liam Raney who made a nice run to the top of the 6 yard box, won the ball away from two defenders, and put it away for his 3rd goal of the season.  For Jackson, it was his second assist of the game, and 5th on the season which leads the team.

The Trojans put the game on ice a minute later with a penalty kick goal converted by River Stewart who is now 2-2 on PK's this season, and has 13 goals on the season, which leads the team and is tied for 2nd most in the NWAC.  For the Trojan defense it was the third shutout of the season, and redshirt freshman goalkeeper out of Marysville, Eric Ibanez in his second start of the season made 4 saves and earned his first career solo performance shutout.

Everett heads into the final three games of the season against teams that are all vying for playoff positioning.  Their next match, and final home match of the season will be against Whatcom, where a win could solidify a trip to the post season.  In the previous meeting with the Orcas, Everett played down a man for the final 60 minutes of the match, and ultimately fell 2-0.  The game is set for Sunday, October 24th at Kasch Park with a 12pm kick off.
