Trojans Win On Another Goal Scoring, Record Breaking Night

Trojans Win On Another Goal Scoring, Record Breaking Night

Everett, WA - A little less than a month ago, the Trojans traveled to Shoreline and broke a program record for goals scored in a match when they defeated the Dolphins 10-0.  On another beautiful fall evening the men's soccer team faced Shoreline again, this time at home and bested their goal scoring performance, defeating SCC 12-1.  It took little time to get on the board as the first goal was scored less than 4 minutes into the match by Luis Carillo who went on to have a career day, scoring two goals and also recording two assists.  From that moment on the flood gates opened with River Stewart who scored two minutes later, connecting on his first of four goals in the first half.  Jesus Ciriaco-Trujillo scored his second goal of the season (his second straight game with a goal) in the 24th minute which was right in between Stewart's four goals.  That rounded out the half at 6-0.

Shoreline snuck in a goal, catching the Trojans off guard two minutes into the second half, setting up a hopeful dramatic comeback on the Shoreline bench.  Muhammed Darboe deflated those aspirations in a hurry, scoring one of his two goals four minutes later, his second coming in the 69th minute.  Other Trojan goal scorers included Emmanuel Nyaga, Tatsuya Cosey, and a fifth goal from River Stewart.  Entering the match River sat at 14 goals on the season, two shy of his goal total last season which tied the single season goal scoring record set by Aaron Byrne back in 2017.  With the five goals River catapulted past the previous record of 16 and into the history books with 19 goals on the season with five matches left on the schedule. His career total now sits at 35 which is also the most in program history.  Not surprisingly his point total of goals and assists combined also ranks among the best in program history for a single season (40) and a career (77).

Emmanuel Escalante picked up his 8th assist of the season which now ranks 2nd all time in a single season at EvCC and the total team goals of 49 has tied the record set by the 2017 and 2018 teams.

The Trojans will host Edmonds on Saturday at 2pm in the T Trophy rivalry game with critical points up for grabs in the North region standings.
