Walk-off Win

Walk-off Win

Everett, WA - Once again the Trojans relied on stout pitching and timely offense to secure a couple of wins on Saturday versus the visiting Cardinals of Skagit Valley College.  Freshman pitcher Kaylie Hoskins out of Lake Stevens took to the circle in game one, and in true fashion struck out the first two batters she faced.  Kaylie's dominance would continue throughout the game as she would go on to pitch a shutout on just one hit and struck out 17 batters.  The Trojan offense struggled to lend support to the effort until the 6th inning that was led off by Kayla Tuaoa's double.  Mele Turner came up with a clutch single that would bring in the run, and it would turn out to be the only run needed in a tight 1-0 ball game.

Kayla Tuaoa started game two for Everett which would go the distance and turn out to be the first extra inning game of the season.  As it turned out, game two was the polar opposite of game one with the first game combining for just 6 total hits.  In game two, there were 27 total hits.  The Cardinals started out the game with 2 runs in the top of the first, and Everett was able to answer.  Kayla Tuaoa connected for her second double of the day, this time driving in Taylor Maynard after her lead off single.  The Trojans responded again in the 2nd with another two runs.  Once again Kayla Tuaoa squared up a double to bring home Maynard and Charis Jones.

Everett built upon the lead in the 5th bringing in two more runs after a string of singles to make the score 5-2.  In the top of the 6th Skagit Valley rallied to tie the game up at 5 and after a scoreless 7th the game headed into extra innings.  Kayla Tuaoa remained in the circle and got the first out before giving up a walk and allowing the runner to move to 2nd on a passed ball prompting coach Smith to go back to Kaylie Hoskins who finished out the inning with two more strikeouts bringing her total to 19 on the day.

The game ended in dramatic fashion when Cherysh Wong came up with a huge walk off single with two runners on to seal the 5-6 win and 7th win in a row improving the season record to 7-1.
