More Trojan Magic

Everett, WA – The Trojans faced Edmonds College in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon for the fourth time, hoping to avenge a 2-5 defeat in their last meeting at Edmonds.  Kaylie Hoskins was dynamite once again pitching a no hit shutout.  A lone walk in the 4th inning was the only thing that prevented her from recording a perfect game.  Hoskins struck out the first 10 batters that she faced, finishing the game with 17 strikeouts and moving her up to #4 (passing EvCC Hall of Famer Allie Milless) on the all time EvCC single season strikeout list with 137.

The Everett offense struggled against Nadia Delzer until the 4thin inning when back to back singles put runners on first and third for the Trojans.  Jaz McMiller laid down a bunt, and upon the throw to first, savvy base running by Kaitlynn Bridgewater at third allowed the first run of the game to come across.

Everett got an insurance run in the 5th inning after NWAC player of the week Leiloa Bustamante tripled.  With two outs Kayla Tuaoa tripled herself down the right field line putting the Trojans up 2-0 which would end up being the final score.  Between both pitchers combining for 25 strikeouts, and only 8 hits (all by EvCC) the game ended after just one hour and twenty minutes.

Game two ended up with a completely different look with both teams pushing across runs in the 1st inning.  Everett busted the game open in the third inning with 6 runs to go up 7-2.  Edmonds responded with a grand slam in the top of the 4th bringing the game back to within a run.  Kayla Tuaoa had pitched a solid game to that point, giving up just 5 hits and striking out 5 batters.

The Trojans responded in the bottom of the 4th with 5 more runs pushing the lead back out to 6 runs.  Hoskins would come back to pitch in relief in the top of the 5th proceeding to strikeout two more batters bringing her total to 19 on the day and subsequently moving her up one more spot to #3 all time on the strikeout list (passing Alyson Yelenich) with 139 strikeouts on the season.  That total leads the NWAC in both total strikeouts and an astoning 14.2 K's per 7 innings pitched.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th, Jaz McMiller got hit by a pitch and that was followed by a Charis Jones walk that ended the game via the 8-run rule at 14-6.

The two wins on the day move Everett to 15-3 on the season and have now defeated Edmonds in 7 of 8 matchups.  Everett will next play on Saturday on the road at Skagit Valley College (2-10).
