Trojans Get it Done in Two Game Sweep Over Pierce

Trojans Get it Done in Two Game Sweep Over Pierce

Everett, WA - After an Olympic forfeit, and the Edmonds doubleheader getting rained out, the Trojans finally got the chance to play in a north region game.  They hosted a doubleheader against Pierce College and came away with a pair of wins (in two very different ways).

Game one was dominate both offensively and defensively as EvCC came away with a 9-1 win by virtue of the 8-run rule in the 5th inning.  The Trojans combined for 10 hits, led by red shirt freshmen Meleana Turner and Jazmine McMiller who both had two hits and two RBI's.  Turners hits were both doubles, giving her eight on the year and ranked 3rd in the NWAC for the most doubles on the season.  The Trojans also did not strike out in 23 total at bats.  Starter Kaylie Hoskins continued to control the plate, finishing the game with 11 strikeouts on just two hits.  Her lone blemish came in the 3rd inning when her only conceded walk of the game turned into a run, after a double scored the runner from first.

Game two was much different, as the bats fell quiet for EvCC, but the pitching remained solid.  Freshman Riley Swanson got the start and threw two shutout innings before giving up a run in the third inning on back to back hits and no outs.  She worked out of the jam, and pitched two more shutout innings, giving up just four hits, walking three and striking out five through five complete innings.

In the bottom half of that third inning, Taylor Maynard got things started with a lead off walk.  The Trojans then took advantage of an error and an illegal pitch that loaded the bases.  Freshman Savannah Ah-Mook Sang Frank singled which brought in a run, and another run would score one batter later on a wild pitch.  Yet with no outs and runners at third and second the Trojans could not get another run in, and had to be satisfied with the 2-1 lead.

Hoskins came back to pitch in the 6th inning, and promptly slammed the door shut on any thought of a Pierce comeback.  She pitched two hitless innings and struck out three more batters to give herself a total of 14 K's on the day.  Savannah Ah Mook Sang-Frank had the lone RBI on just two total hits for EvCC in the game.

The Trojans are now 4-0 in north region play and 10-1 overall.  They are scheduled to play next at home against Skagit Valley College on Thursday, March 31st.  The Cardinals are 0-2 in region play with a 4-4 overall record.
