Extra Inning Thriller in Mount Vernon

Extra Inning Thriller in Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon, WA - The Trojans visited rivals to the north, Skagit Valley College over the weekend and came away with two crucial wins in the race for first place in the North Region standings.  Game one of the day was dominated from start to finish by the Trojans, beginning with starting pitcher Kaylie Hoskins, who went six innings, striking out 13 batters and allowing 6 hits.  The offense started slow but came alive in the 4th exploding for five runs on three hits highlighted by Madison German's triple, her 3rd of the season.  Another run in the 5th, again coming off of German's bat, and two in the 6th sealed the deal for the 8-run rule.  Kayla Tuaoa and Jordyn Lono combined for back to back doubles to contribute to those runs.

Game two had a much different flavor, as the Trojans fell behind 3-0 into the 4th inning.  Serina Penrod came in to relieve Riley Mae Swanson in the circle and went 2.2 innings, holding the Cardinals scoreless until finally in the top of the 7th, Everett got something going.  With two runners on and one out, Kayla Tuaoa picked a timely spot for her 3rd home run of the year tying the game and sending it into extra innings.  Kaylie Hoskins came back into the game for Everett to pitch and proceeded to throw 4 ruthless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 9.  In the top of the 10th, EvCC started with a runner at second and was able to move the runner over to third with a single from Kaitlynn BridgewaterTaylor Maynard then came up with perhaps her biggest hit of the season, a two run double to give Everett the lead.  Maynard then came around to score from a Leiloa Bustamante to take a three run lead.  In the bottom of the 10th, the Trojans delt with the lead off runner placed at 2nd.  But after a couple of easy flyouts and a strikeout, the runner never moved, sealing the 27th win of the season for Everett.

The Trojans are now 18-2 in the north, just a half game back from first place Bellevue at 19-2.  Everett will take on Douglas College next at home, scheduled for Friday, May 6th.
