Trojans Finish 2nd in Region, and Prepare for NWAC Tournament

Everett, WA – The 8th ranked Trojans closed out the regular season on an eight game win streak, outscoring opponents 97-11.  With wins over Pierce, Highline, and Olympic, the Trojans improved their overall record to 24-10 but the strength of schedule over that stretch dropped EvCC down two spots in the RPI rankings which are used to seed the 16-team NWAC tournament.

At #10, EvCC will face off against #7 Columbia Basin College in the opening round, which happens to be the top run producing team in the NWAC this season.  Earlier this season the Trojans fell to CBC 11-9 but 6 Trojan errors in that game made the difference, and EvCC went hit for hit with the Hawks.  It will undoubtedly be an offensive showcase as both teams rank inside the NWAC top 6 in runs scored, homeruns, batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

The Trojans finished the season as perhaps one of the most productive offenses in program history.  Statisically some categories could have been much higher as EvCC only played 33 regular season games.  A total of 8 games were outright canceled due to weather earlier this spring, otherwise this year's team may have shattered every offensive statistical category and may yet still have the ability to do so with at least two playoff games guaranteed.

Currently the 2023 team ranks 2nd in EvCC history in runs scored, 3rd in hits, 1st in doubles, 2nd in triples, 1st in home runs, 3rd in stolen bases, and first in batting average.  Among this team are a number of standouts including Savanna Ah Mook Sang-Frank and Kayla Tuaoa who earned 2nd Team All North Region Honors, Ivane Aholelei, Leiloa Bustamante, Serina Penrod, Isabelle Hansen, and Jordyn Lono received 1st Team All North Region Honors, and sophomore catcher Maddie German was named the North Region's Most Valuable Player.

Everett's first round playoff game is scheduled for Thursday, May 18th at 10:00am at Delta Park in Portland, OR.  The 16-team tournament is double elimination with the champion crowned on Sunday, May 31st.  All games will be held at Delta Park, and most will be streamed live on the nwacsports network.  Championship information can be found HERE.
