Fastest in the NWAC

Tacoma, WA -  The Trojans opened up the 2022 Track and Field season in Tacoma at the Pacific Lutheran University Open.  After a cancelled season in 2020 and an abbreviated season in 2021 that featured no championship event, EvCC was eager to get back out and showcase their talent.  Several Trojans had highlight level performances of note.  On the women's side sophomore Tracey Hatch finished 6th in the 200m with a time of 27.21 which currently ranks her third best in the NWAC and is a personal best.  The time also ranks 11th all time at EvCC in the 200m.  Freshman Iayanah Brewer competed in her first ever collegiate meet and placed 8th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.74 (3rd in the NWAC) and also ran in the 200m placing 11th overall with a time of 28.37 (9th in the NWAC).  Another freshman, Jamira Barnes competed in the high jump and placed 3rd overall with a height of 4' 9.5" (3rd in NWAC) and 5th all time at EvCC.  One of the best performances of the day came from redshirt freshman Mattason Straub who placed 5th overall in the 100m with a time of 12.66, which currently ranks her as the fastest time in the NWAC.  That time is also the 5th fastest all time at EvCC.  Mattason also posted a time of 26.87 in the 200m which was 5th overall in the meet, and currently ranks 2nd in the NWAC by two tenths of a second.  Both of those times for Mattason rank as personal bests.   

On the men's side Christopher Gray ran the 200m and 400m with times of 23.38(PR) and 50.67 placing 9th and 2nd respectively.  Gray's 400m time currently ranks him at 2nd in the NWAC by less than two-tenths of a second.  Sophomore Markell Carter finished 2nd overall in the long jump, posting 20'10.75" and first in the triple jump at 43'11.25".  Those marks rank 6th and 3rd in the NWAC respectively.  Freshman Caden Carrigan finished 6th in the Javelin, throwing 154'10" and ranking him 3rd in the NWAC.  The highlight of the meet for the Trojan men came from Drew Hill, who won the 100m with a time of 10.67 ranking him the fastest in the NWAC and the fastest ever recorded official time at EvCC.    

The Trojans' next meet will be this weekend at the Doris Heritage Festival hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
