VanNess Propels Trojans in Big Road Win

VanNess Propels Trojans in Big Road Win

Bellevue, WA - EvCC traveled to Bellevue for their first basketball game since December 19th.  After a canceled tournament due to weather and two canceled games due to COVID-19 protocols the Trojans finally got back in the gym, and what a showing it was.  Sydney VanNess was electric in the first quarter, showing no signs of rust and going 4-4 from the floor (3-3 from three) and ending the first quarter with 11 of the Trojans' 15 points.  Heading into the second quarter with a three point lead, the Trojan offense got even more potent as six different players scored, led by Central Washington University transfer Kinslee Gallatin who scored all 7 of her points in that frame.  The Trojans held Bellevue to just four points through the quarter until a made three by Bellevue stopped the 20-4 run.  At the break, Everett held on to a commanding 35-19 lead.

The home Bulldogs showed more fight in the third and actually outscored Everett 13-12 in that period.  It was Mikail Montez's turn for offensive prowess as she scored 8 of her 14 points to help keep EvCC comfortably in the lead despite VanNess's foul trouble and limited minutes.  Montez got Everett going in the fourth with a made jumper to push the lead up to 17 and moment later Courtner Perry sank a couple of free throws to extend the lead further.  From there it was more smooth shooting VanNess for the Trojans, scoring the final 8 points of the game for EvCC and sealing the 59-40 road victory.

Sydney finished with 24 points on 9-11 shooting in one of her best shooting performances in her career as a Trojan and she also added 8 rebounds.  Mikail Montez added 14 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while ThuyVi Tran chipped in 10 rebounds from the guard position and also dished out 4 assists.

Everett will return home this week for a match up with rival Edmonds College.  The last time these two teams faced each other it was back in 2020 (Edmonds opted out in 2021 due to COVID) and it was a loser-out play in game in which the Trojans went on to win 58-48.

Tip off is set for 5pm at Larry Walker Court in Everett.
