3rd Straight Win for Trojans

3rd Straight Win for Trojans

Everett, WA – The Trojans hosted Olympic College on Wednesday night, a program searching for their first north region win of the season.  The Rangers desperation to get a win showed by the defensive intensity in which they played their 2-3 zone.  In the first quarter, the Trojans struggled heavily on the offensive end, shooting just 2 of 12 before Maddie Thoma finally hit a big three with under one minute to play.  Despite just 8 first quarter points, the Trojan defense kept the Rangers on their heals as well, shooting just 2 of 13 and only mustering 5 points.

Olympic opened up the second quarter scoring five straight points, and taking a 10-8 lead before Maddie Thoma answered on the next possession with her 2nd three of the game to regain the lead and spark a 17-0 run for the remainder of the half for EvCC.

It was another strong start to the quarter for Olympic, opening up with an 8-4 run through the first five minutes of action.  Out of the timeout, the Trojan defense responded and gave up just two field goals for the remainder of the third quarter, while connecting on three of their own to hold onto a comfortable 38-23 lead.

The Trojans remained in control for the final ten minutes of the game, using a 15-point fourth quarter to cruise to their 3rd straight north region win with a final score of 53-33.  Sydney VanNess and Maddy Thoma led the Trojans in scoring with 12 and 10 respectively. Kendall Carrol had a solid night scoring 8 with 7 rebounds and Mikail Montez scored 8 as well and hauled in 10 rebounds, the sixth time this season with double boards.

The win moves Everett into a tie with Peninsula College at 3-1 for third place in the north region standings.  The Trojans have a date with Peninsula this Saturday afternoon in Port Angeles with sole control of third place at stake.  Tip-off is set for 4pm.
