VanNess Scores 24 Again on the Dogs

Everett, WA – Women's hoops was back in action over the weekend and took on the Bellevue Bulldogs, a talented team but struggling at just 1-7 in north region play.  In the previous meeting, Everett toppled Bellevue on the road by a final score of 59-40 and Sydney VanNess scored 24.

In the first half, Everett played their prototypical tough man to man defense, and held Bellevue to just 10 first quarter points.  Meanwhile the offense looked good putting up 17, led by ThuyVi Tran and Sydney VanNess who each had six points apiece.  But the score was reciprocated in the 2nd quarter as the Trojans fell cold, shooting just 2 for 9 from the floor, and the halftime score was tied at 27.  Sydney VanNess led all scorers at the break with 11 points connecting on 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.

The score remained close through the 3rd quarter with several ties and lead changes.   EvCC built out to a six-point lead on a VanNess' layup, but Bellevue battled back to within one before the quarter came to an end.  Kinslee Gallatin had a big quarter for Everett, scoring 7 of her 13 points for the game.  In the final quarter, the Trojans remained poised and kept a narrow lead throughout the period, building out as much as seven on a bucket from Courtney Perry with just under three minutes to play.  That cushion would be enough to hold on through a couple surges from Bellevue until the final buzzer.   Once again Sydney VanNess finished with 24 points, and added 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Kinslee Gallatin chipped in 13 with 6 rebounds, and Courtney Perry got the double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  The Trojans improve to 6-3 in the region and remain tied with Shoreline for 3rd place in the standings.  They will face rivals Edmonds College on Wednesday at Seaview Gym.
