Women's Hoops Season Recap

Everett, WA – After a promising start to the 2022-2023 season, injuries plagued the Trojans and derailed to team's chances of qualifying for the playoffs in back to back seasons under second year head coach Jeannie Thompson.  EvCC began the season 3-1 with wins over Tacoma, Big Bend, and Spokane but sophomore leader Mikail Montez went down with a season ending injury during a December tournament at Skagit Valley College, and it was an uphill battle from that point.

Montez was on pace to break the EvCC career rebounding record, needing to average just 4.2 rebounds per game for the remainder of the season to break the career mark held by Ashley Albertson at 505.  Still, with just 47 career games, Mikail reached 441 rebounds which ranks 3rd all time.  She also finished with a career 42.8% field goal percentage (min. 200 attempts) to rank 9th all time.

Sophomore Maddy Thoma led the team in scoring and rebounds with 12.1 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. A pair of freshman, Grace Trichler and Mia Jones each averaged 8.1 and 7.1 points respectively.  Abbie Juozapaitis a transfer from NCAA DII Metro State University-Denver joined the team in January, and played in 6 games, averaging 9.7 points per game before she went down with a season ending injury as well.

While it was sometimes difficult to find success on the hardwood, academically the team had a strong 3.04 team GPA.  Both Maddy Thoma and Grace Trichler ended up on the President's list with 4.0 GPA's in fall quarter, and Mikail Montez and Iayannah Brewer also made the academic honor roll.
