Trojans Battle Tough

Everett, WA – EvCC women's volleyball hosted Whatcom CC in their 2nd home match of this condensed spring season.

In the first set, Everett hung tough scoring 4 straight points to tie the game at 20, but struggled to find points down the stretch falling 25-20.  They were led by sophomore Ana Sulantay with 3 kills.

In set two, the Trojans went toe to toe with the Orcas, and capitalized on opponents' mistakes.  Everett went on a 5 point run capped by a Hannah Cymbaluk kill to force an Orcas timeout at 13-8.  Out of the timeout, Everett built the lead to as much as 8, forcing another Whatcom timeout at 18-10.  This time the Orcas responded going on a 12-6 run.  The run was cut short on set point with an attacking error giving Everett the 25-22 win.

The third set featured a tight start, with a 10-10 deadlock.  From there Whatcom took the advantage 15-12 forcing an EvCC timeout.  The Orcas held the three point advantage and was the first team to reach 20, but after three straight attacking errors, Everett climbed right back in at 20-20 Whatcom took a timeout.   That was enough to re-focus and a 5-2 run sealed the 25-22 win for WCC overcoming 9 errors in the set.

After a back and forth start to the 4th set, Whatcom built a 3 point lead after an 8-1 run.  Everett responded with a run of their own scoring 7 of the next 9 points and taking a 14-13 lead.  The Orcas fought right back and a 5 point run gave the lead back to WCC at 19-15 and forcing an EvCC timeout.  In exciting fashion, Everett fought back to bring the score to 23-24, after Whatcom held set point at 24-20.  Whatcom called a timeout and after a nice rally, the Orcas ended the match on a beautiful kill.

Everett was led by Kelsey Kolling who recorded 9 kills on .200% hitting.  Lindsey Fleming recorded 17 assists and 9 digs.  Claire Lyshol led the team with 16 digs.

Everett will get a week off before getting a second crack at rival Edmonds College on the road.  Game time is set for 7pm on Friday 4/23.
